Saint Alphonsus Health System uses Remote Presence technology to provide enhanced inpatient and outpatient consultation services. Remote Presence technology, is a web-based, wireless platform that can be accessed wherever wireless internet is available. In essence, the technology allows physicians to be two places at once. Dual-screen desktop computers and laptops are used to control the Robot and allow physicians to be remotely present with patients, family and friends, and other healthcare providers, to extend the expertise of specialists to multiple partnering hospitals, that would otherwise lack specialty services.
The Emergency Specialist Program was created to improve access to state-of-the-art health care for patients presenting to our partnering hospital emergency departments. Utilizing Remote Presence Technology to accommodate face to face provider collaboration, integration of emergency protocols, and coordination of services between hospitals, patient treatment and transport can be expedited. This consultative approach improves access to specialty care and reduces the need for travel and unnecessary patient transports.
