Saint Alphonsus’ New
Center for Advanced Healing

Evidenced-Based Design, Healing Environment Key Components

Saint Alphonsus has completed a new state-of-the-art facility designed to serve the community’s healthcare needs for generations to come. The Center for Advanced Healing creates one of the most advanced clinical environments in the northwest, providing 21st century medicine in a 21st century healing environment. The new Center combines state-of-the-art medical technologies and treatments, evidenced-based architectural design principles proven to enhance healing, and highly skilled staff delivering care in ways that involve the patient and family in the healing process.

The new nine-story patient care tower is equipped with private rooms; a new 16-suite operating theatre; new Intensive Care Unit; and improved wayfinding and access. These new additions, along with enhancements to the existing facility, are designed to improve patient health outcomes, privacy, comfort, and safety. The new facility also integrates research-based, architectural design principles into the environment – principles proven to aid in recovery and the healing process.

Saint Alphonsus will also capture—and share—its data as part of a joint research program with the Center for Health Design’s Pebble Project, to document examples of healthcare facility design impact on quality of care and financial performance. The $161.2 million construction project is funded through operations, debt financing and philanthropic support.

In Fall 2001, Saint Alphonsus launched its Vision 2010 strategy, an innovative approach where quality medical services are delivered through four distinct settings: the regional medical center; neighborhood health plazas; primary care clinics; and individual home settings. Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center – the Center for Advanced Healing – is the centerpiece of the Vision 2010 strategy.

The new major building expansion and renovation of the hospital – a place where we provide care for newborns as well as treat the most severely injured – focuses on two key factors: community need and involving patients and families in the care process.

We’re all challenged with the explosive growth of our community, the huge wave of baby boomers on the horizon, and the growing shortage of skilled healthcare workers. The new campus is the result of over five years of studying the best ways to deliver healthcare and the best environments to help patients heal. Hundreds of hours have been invested from board members, nurses, physicians, clinical staff, and healthcare industry experts to craft this unique opportunity. We believe this project is absolutely critical to maintain the community’s need for safe, quality, state-of-the-art healthcare services, and to attract and retain highly skilled physicians, nurses, and other health professionals.
